Normalcy Will Return.
March 26th, 2009 by Tom Scharpling
Between the ramp up for the fundraising marathon, the two incredibly stressful weeks of the marathon, the inevitable post-marathon crash and the filming of a Nicholas Cage movie at the station during the 3/24 show, I feel that The Best Show has not been on its natural rhythm, as fun as some of those shows have been. Tom Reviews Every James Bond Movie #7 – Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
December 27th, 2008 by Tom Scharpling
A NOTE BEFORE WE BEGIN:
I will use the word ‘manque’ three times through the course of this review. But I do not use it in jest; it for a very serious reason. I volunteer for a charity called “Stroke Off”, which promotes the prevention of Type One (extremely low grade) heat stroke. More…

Jon’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Memories Pt 1: Lubbock, TX
October 31st, 2008 by Jon Wurster
So, I thought I’d try to do a regular thing here where I jot down some of the (mostly nutso) experiences I’ve had in my 20-some years of treading the rock ‘n’ roll boards.
Today, I’m in the middle of a tour with a band called The Mountain Goats. I’m their drummer. It’s a wonderful experience. Today is my birthday and I am in Lubbock, TX. The last time I was here was September of 1991…. More…

What We Do Is Not Entirely Accurate
August 10th, 2008 by Jon Wurster
Last night I saw the Germs biopic, “What We Do Is Secret.” It’s not the easiest thing to pull off a film on a subject such as this, and I give all involved much credit. There were several excellent moments, and Shane West was great as Darby Crash –especially during the live performances.
And now I ask… More…

I know this post will be controversial…
June 29th, 2008 by Jon Wurster
…but I feel it’s time to address something.
While it’s true that Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Idi Amin, Jim Jones, etc are responsible for many of the worst examples of human behavior on record, it is also true that, as far as I know, none of them ever played the harmonica, by themselves, in a public place. More…
It is times like these that I love life…
June 25th, 2008 by Jon Wurster
Or should that read “It is IN times like these IN WHICH I love life”?
I’m sitting with my back to the TV screen (don’t judge me), and I hear it….the mandolin. Then the melodica. It’s heaven to mine ears, and it can only mean two things:
A) “And We Danced” …the tune by my dudes…my homies…the Hooters.
B) “Cold Case”…what other show besides “Hack” or “Angie” is set in Philly (I mean besides that Phila version of “Scared Straight” circa: 1981 where that inmate tells that one kid that he’s going to “ram my hoagie up your Schuylkill Expressway” if he doesn’t stop it with the shenanagins)?
Sure the “Cold Case” episode was about a heinous crime committed in 1986, but when was the last time you got to hear the fucking Hooters on national television? You gotta savor that stuff, right?
At this moment all is right with the world. Or should that read: “This is a moment IN WHICH all is right with the world”? Ah, who cares…where’s my powder blue jumpsuit?
